The entries for the contest blew my mind, the turnout was so much better than I expected! You can see all the entries here, and since I know my gallery plugin is a bit lacking you can also see the ones on DeviantArt in this folder here! And you should see all the entries because they are amazing! I have been minorly stressing out this week over how only 3 winners could be chosen from so many great entries, but decisions had to be made, so here we go! The winners of the 2015 The Silver Eye Art Contest are…

First Place: Prodigal Sons by aiholic1

The concepts of these drawings so perfectly capture each character’s arc: Apen’s struggle with responsibility, Gudrun’s desire to protect her children, Enel’s want for family, and Velvare’s issues with honesty. On top of that, everything is so meticulously detailed—from the patterns that would make me go insane to draw, to that little scar on Velvare’s ear that’s exactly where I put it. These are just incredible!

Second Place: Enel’s Antics Aboard the Novalog by skygazer172

So the theme of the contest was Speculations for Volume 2… and this comic here feels like it’s a deleted scene straight from Volume 2! The character interactions are so spot on. In the coming chapters I will not be documenting every one of bored Enel’s shenanigans while on the Novalog, but you can imagine stuff like this is happening on a daily basis!

Third Place: The Silver Eye – His and His by Shotechi

Okay, so I am a huge fan of watercolor. Art-wise, this is very well done, it has a nice composition, well executed textures for the different elements like the water or clouds, and of course a color scheme that makes my eyes melt out of their sockets! It’s 3am, I am running out of words sorry.  I appreciate all the research and thought that’s been put behind this painting though I will neither confirm nor deny anything.

Whether or not you won, you should know my mother was one of the judges and she loves you all relentlessly and said if she had a million dollars she’d let everybody win. Thank you everyone who entered, I do not have words to express how grateful I am to have such amazing people pay attention to my work. I’m so honored. (I’ve been trying to leave comments on each individual entry, but I’ve fallen behind in the craziness of today and I’ll get to them soon!)

About that actual page update and other things:
In case anyone was wondering, this is what it feels like to visit Jamestown after watching Pocahontas. And this is what the day looked like when I visited Jamestown as a child. And I’m not forgiving Disney for false expectations any time soon. I hope that we have all missed Enel so much that his Enelisms might not be so annoying as they may have been otherwise. Apen is supposed to be rolling his eyes, but it looks like he’s making a “Can you believe this guy?” face at the camera, but that’s cool, too. He wishes it was three seconds ago and Enel was still unconscious.

I had a nice birthday. I am 23 now. I went to the Chrysler Museum of Art and my family left me behind whenever I stopped to sketch or take notes, which was a billion times, so I spent a ridiculous amount of the visit pondering “Did they just vanish through that doorwayor that doorway?” but we all made it out alive. There’s a video game exhibit going on now and I got this awesome Hylian shield mint tin at the gift shop. I ate cupcakes and wore yoga pants all day and won Settlers of Catan. Very nice birthday Indeed!

On Patreon, Behind the Scenes patrons got downloads of a few overlay textures, including the new one I’m using now!
